Being a Mum is like flying a kite, you never know which way it is going to turn, it can turn really fast and end up crashing. Or it can just float happily and peacefully in one place, or simply sway from side to side

Becoming An Australian Citizen

A really good friend of mine was becoming an Australian citizen today. As I was the first person that she met when she arrived in the country in 2000, I thought that I should be at her ceremony to see her receive her certificate. She moved here from Germany in 2000 not knowing anyone, I met her through a friend, and it just so happened that I had a spare room for her to stay in at the time.

It was however a bit of an adventure for us to get there. Little Miss and I picked up the Little Man from Preschool and went on an adventure. We first stopped at the shops for a bite to eat, then we went on a big adventure to the train station to catch the train. Wow!!.

As you can imagine the Little Man was very excited about getting to go on a train even though it was only 4 stops, but still we were on the train, looking out the window at the world going by. Very exciting for a nearly 4 and nearly 2 year old.

We arrived at our destination and then we had to walk a little way to reach the hall that the ceremony was being held at. Of course it decided to bucket down with rain half way there. We had to take shelter near a bus stop and watched the buses pick up the people, which is also fascinating for small children.  It had to be the day that I left my umbrella at home didn’t it. I had the children all sorted, but I got wet. Oh well, oh to be a Mum.

I was a very nice ceremony and my friend is now an Australian Citizen. Way to go, Congratulations you deserve to be an Aussie. Now you can go around and say G’Day Mate.

She was presented her certificate by the Mayor, and then we were treated with Lamingtons and Anzac biscuits, very Australian.  My Husband said that they were Australian Food Icons not just a cake or a biscuit :)

Receiving her certificate

Very proud to now be an Australian

With the Little Man

The trip home wasn’t so bad, the little people were very tired after the big day, it wasn’t raining so the walk to the station wasn’t so bad, and we had Daddy with us to help as he met us there. Little Miss fell asleep in the car on the way home it all got too much for them. What a good day. Well done Lovely.

Your husband is right about Anzac biscuits being a National food icon. I guess now that you’re a legit Australian, you better try one of these Anzac biscuits recipes, lol! They actually taste good, very heartwarming, always gives you that sense of tranquility. It taste like being home. Well, I guess you should try it yourself and see what I’m talking about, lol!

I am officially an Australian now and it feels great! It was great to have special friends there like Kym, Jason and their kids. Thank you guys for making this occassion even more special. I did enjoy the ceremony however the Anzac Biscuits and Lamingtons and even more importantly your very own Vegemite I just leave these to all of “real” Aussies to enjoy. Happy to bring some quality German food like Nutella to the table. I know Benjamin loves it!
