DVD Player on Stroller & TV watching
While it might might make people look at you and your new child, it may be trendy and new, but do you think that it is right?, Sorry but I think that putting a DVD player on your stroller is just wrong. What do you think?
I was walking around the shopping center the other day and I saw a stroller with a DVD player attached to it, with a Pooh DVD playing. The child in the stroller would have only been about 6-7months old. Does a 6-7 month old child really need to be watching TV or DVD? I really don’t think so.
Firstly a child of that age doesn’t require that much stimulation, it will always have problems going to sleep because so much stimulation is not good for small children. They can only see black and white for the first couple of months of life as it is.
Secondly why do you need to play a DVD to a child of that age? Certainly when you are walking around the shops, surely that is enough stimulation in the first place. They have enough to look at as it is.
I am sorry but I really don’t agree with this at all, the Little Man didn’t get to watch TV until he was nearly 12 months old, the first show that I let him watch was Play School, and that was only because I feel that it is fun and reasonably educational. It has however been a little more difficult with Little Miss but she still isn’t watching a lot of TV, and I don’t let them just watch anything.
I read in a newspaper yesterday that children should be limited to two hours a day of computer or TV watching. For Children aged 2-5 it should be no more than 1 hour a day and kids under 2 should have no exposure to TV at all. Wow, even I think that is going a bit overboard. I don’t let my children watch TV after 4pm as there is really nothing on and we take this time to play, eat, bath and read books before bed time. We watch TV mainly in the mornings while we are getting ready for the rest of the day, it gives me a chance to have a shower and a hot cup of tea.
These are just my thoughts and opinions, I am sure that not all of you think the same, you have opinions of your own, let me know what they are. If you think that is it a good idea, why? Let us hear your opinions (everyone is entitled to their own opinion, yours may be different so why not share your view)

That reminds me of the scene in Wall-E where everyone was attached to their screens.
I agree - we don’t have a screen for the car and we’re the only ones on the block (much to my son’s chagrin) without VIDEO GAMES! *gasp*

Good on you, I am sure that we will be the only ones with out a screen in the car also. We didn’t have it when we were children and survived, I can hear it now though, “oh Mum you just don’t understand”

I used to agree with you. My child wasn’t going to watch TV AT ALL until she was 2. And then I would very carefully screen everything. Uh huh. Then I realized my husband thinks he needs the TV on to function. It used to upset me that it was always on, and now I have realized that she is so used to it that she totally ignores it. It could just as well be wallpaper. Kids are all different. I do agree that a DVD in a stroller is extreme. Flaunting if you ask me.
