Being a Mum is like flying a kite, you never know which way it is going to turn, it can turn really fast and end up crashing. Or it can just float happily and peacefully in one place, or simply sway from side to side

Cooking with little ones can be lots of fun, but it can also be a little frustrating when you are so used to having the kitchen to yourself. I always try to let the little man help where he can though.

We are off on a picnic tomorrow in the park, it is a friends birthday, so I thought that I would just make a batch of biscuits to take along with us.

I had this thought a little late in the evening but that is not an issue, I got straight onto it while the little ones were being bathed by their Dad.

Little did I know that I would have a little helper not long into the making of these wonderful creations.

The little man helped me with the sifting of the flour and dry ingredients and then the mixing, and of course licking of the beaters when all is done.

I remember doing this when I was young, hang on I think I only stopped when the little man took over, hehehe.

I got the recipe from the Edmonds Cookery Book - this is a New Zealand cook book, and thanks to my brother in law, who is from New Zealand, they recently went back to New Zealand for a holiday and they bought me back my own copy.

If you would like to try making them yourself, then here is the recipe.

Melting Moments

200 g butter, softened
3/4 cup icing sugar
1 Cup plain flour
1 Cup corn flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Cream butter and icing sugar until light and fluffy. Sift flour, cornflour and baking powder together. Mix into creamed mixture, mixing well. Roll dough into small balls the size of large marbles and place on a greased oven tray. Flatten slightly with a floured fork. Bake at 180℃ for 20 minutes or until cooked. Let cool. Makes 32 single biscuits.

It says to put two biscuits together with a butter icing or jam, but I just left mine as single biscuits. They are very tasty.

J kept coming out to the kitchen to see if everything was Ok, but kept taking the biscuits and eating them so they mustn’t be that bad. I might have to make another batch before going to the picnic tomorrow.

Enjoy making them with your little ones, let us know how you went.

Works for me Wednesday
