Being a Mum is like flying a kite, you never know which way it is going to turn, it can turn really fast and end up crashing. Or it can just float happily and peacefully in one place, or simply sway from side to side

I have put together this blog while my children are small, you will be able to watch us grow, hopefully helping you out on the way with some tips and tricks that we find out.  But I thought that we should really start at the beginning so that you know what we have come through to get us to this point. I have written 2 parts as it is a bit long, I hope that you will hang in there and read it all.

It took us several months to conceive, after finding out that I had hyperprolactinaemia and wasn’t able to ovulate, as my body was producing very high levels of prolactin in the blood, giving the body the impression that I was already breast feeding, which in turn tells the body not to ovulate. Great!, but we found the magic pills to take and hey presto pregnant within a month. Giving birth 9 mths later to our wonderful Little Man.

He is now 3 years old, he is a wonderful Little Man, but boy can he have his moments. He has had his ups and downs in the 3 years, but we are learning a new thing everyday, and enjoying every minute of it.

My little man was a sick little man when he was a baby, I had all sorts of problems breast feeding him, so I decided it best for all of us to just bottle feed. This day was a great day for all, the little man stopped crying as he was finally feeling full, and I stopped crying because I could have my boobs back, without them hurting so much I could have screamed. I did try though, but found out that it just wasn’t for me. Some people just perceiver and get through, but I was at the stage where I dreaded him waking up for his feed, when you are a Mum you don’t want to feel anxious or dread being with your little baby, you need to be able to bond with them, and I wasn’t. I felt dreadful as I wanted him to have the best, but I just couldn’t do it anymore.

When he was 6 months old, we moved to the US for a few months as J had to work over there, and wasn’t going with out us. It was a great experience and I got to meet some really great MOM’s over there. However the little man always seemed to have a cold and could never seem to budge it, so after many doctor visits, very expensive cold medicine and continually having the doctor telling me he has a cold, “all children get colds”. But something inside me said that it just wasn’t right or fair that this Little Man could have soooo many colds and get quite sick from them. It just wasn’t fair.

So on our return from the US, I found a great Naturopath who was finally able to shed some light on why he always had a cold.  Allergies of course, and the main one being milk and diary products, which is what caused the snotty noses. Then he had a allergy to rice cereal and rice, it would give him a belly ache, and usually at about 3 am, always a great time to have a belly ache.

Finally the Little Man was able to get rid of his cold.. YAY!!!  We cut a majority of the milk and dairy from his diet and he was a new little man. He couldn’t tell us how he felt but you could just tell from his mannerisms and mood that he was feeling much better now.  I think that it was probably harder to avoid the rice, as it is used in most baby foods to bulk them up, so had to read the packet of everything, even the smallest amount would affect him.

We still have to watch what he eats, but he seems to be almost over his milk and diary allergy, and he is definitely over his rice allergy now, which is wonderful. J had the same allergies when he was a baby so at least we know where it came from.
